December 2020
Different times…
So we are nearing the end of this very strange and difficult year due to Covid…here’s to hoping that 2021 will be a much healthier and happier year for all. Despite most of my exhibitions and pop up events were cancelled, I still had a chance to be a vendor at the Marblehead Farmers’ Market (August/Sept/Oct), on the grounds of the Lee Mansion in Marblehead (November), and at the Masonic Hall for the M’head Christmas Walk weekend (December). I also had the opportunity to have many of my paintings at Kent Newton Hair Salon, Boston since January 2020! They are coming down at the end of December. Also, I had paintings in Members Show at the Lee Mansion @ Marblehead Art Association for the months of Nov/Dec.
Ceramics
I have also been very busy with my hand painted ceramics! I love painting all the different shapes – my mugs, platters, ornaments, bowls, vases, tiles for example have been very popular and I look at each piece as a shaped canvas…Each time I unload the kiln it feels like Christmas! Seeing the colors of the glazes pop is very satisfying to me. I’m loving my new and also repeated customers – thank you!
Tuesday Night Raffle Nights!
When the shutdowns started and the schools became remote, I felt I needed to do something to keep connected with everyone, find a way to continue to share my art, and in my little way give something back to my community. So I came up with “Tuesday Night Raffle Night” that I host every week on FaceBook and Instagram…I started mid March and this Tuesday, December 29th 2020 will be my 36th consecutive week! Each week I give away 3-4 pieces of my art (mostly ceramics) in a random drawing. I go live on FB once the drawing closes at 9pm…it’s silly and fun and everyone seems to enjoy it. Feel free to add your name to the drawing! Find me on FB: Susan j Schrader Art or instagram @susanjschrader1
Opportunites
I am grateful that these artisan shops/galleries have been selling my art this past year. I appreciate the opportunity and to have my work in front of new customers near and far.
The Arnould Gallery, 111 Washington Street, Marblehead, MA.
Also, I have been picked up by a Boston based Art Consultant (stay tuned!) and by a North Shore Interior Designer. Already, the amazing Maureen Mercer has placed my painting “Hope” in a local coffee shop, Java Sun, that she redesigned – looks so warm and inviting!
I appreciate their support in my art and I love to create pieces for these beautiful artisan shops/galleries.
I am feeling hopeful for this New Year. I hope to continue to create and share my art with you throughout the coming year. Here’s to 2021 becoming a year where there will be much love, hope, health and prosperity for all.
I miss hanging out with my friends and family. I miss hugging them! Here’s a virtual hug to you all,
Best,
Susan.
January 2019
First of all…Happy 2019!
I am full of optimism that this will be a wonderful and productive year! I am grateful to be able to continue to develop, grow and exhibit my art. I have enjoyed different opportunities this last year that challenged me and allowed me to grow as an artist. For example, this past Fall 2018, I had the unique opportunity to work on an outdoor mural at Glovers School – a local Marblehead, MA school.
Fall 2018
The Glover “Living Mural”
This is me on the day I finished the 30 ft x 6 ft outdoor mural! I designed images that reflected our sleepy little seaside town such as the Marblehead Lighthouse, Abbot Hall, crazy swimming fish, and a playground for example.
I worked on this project September and October…by the end of October some days were quite chilly.
Almost done! I even hid the alphabet throughout the mural for the kids to find…and painted a big flower with a measuring stick so the kids can see how tall they are.
Done!
Here are the children on the first day when they were allowed to finally draw with chalk on the mural. They can color in my drawings, or draw throughout the mural as I left a lot of space for their creations!
And when it rains, the chalk is cleaned off and ready for the next dry recess!

August 2018
Greetings! My website has been sorely overlooked this past year — despite my best intentions to keep it up to date! I thought I would share some of my thoughts with you. I use my Facebook Page: Susan j Schrader Art as a blog of sorts. So if you’d like to see more consisted updates on my newest work and activities please visit and like my page.
2018 has turned out to be such a productive year!
I currently have a Solo Exhibition “wired” up until September 23rd @ Marblehead Arts Association. There are 42 pieces in the exhibit; 18 are wall sculptures, 1 ceramic platter, 3 drawings on paper, and the rest are my paintings.
I have been showing my art consistently throughout the year in Marblehead, Salem and Rockport, MA.
In the Spring 2018, I began to paint on ceramics and really enjoy this new way of working. Each piece is hand painted and completely unique. I have my ceramics currently in 2 locations and we can ship the pieces worldwide. Shipshape located @ 128 Washington Street, Marblehead, MA and Grace&Diggs located on Salem’s Artist Row in historical Salem, MA.
I will also be selling my ceramics here on my website. My website is now secure and so selling online is safe for everyone’s private information.
In addition to preparing for “wired”, I have been enjoying completing painting commissions – it is so satisfying to help hang the finished work in the buyer’s home and see their reaction! Thank you to everyone who has been so supportive.
I am also collaborating with 2 other artists this year! One is a photographer Kim Belf – check out his website: belf.org He and I have worked on 2 pieces so far (see “Butterfly Tea” below) and we will have a 2 person show in the future. The other artist is Jan Brandt from Bloominton, Il. She is a multi-media/painter artist whose works are just amazing. Check out her website: janbrandtgallery.com This Fall we will be each painting on square panels…then we will be completing each other’s works. It is a delight to try new collaborations with artists. I believe it keeps things fresh and a great way to get our work seeing by different audiences.
Also this Fall, I will be working in one of Marblehead’s schools where I will be working with the young students and creating a “living mural” on the outside walls of the school. This project will consist of images created by the children, that I will paint onto large slabs of granite. Once completed, the school kids will be able to color in and draw directly onto the granite surface. This will be a very interesting project to be part of for sure.
Thank you for taking the time to view my art and see what I am up to. Feel free to reach out and contact me if you have any questions on any pieces you see, availability or to talk about a commission.

September has proven to be a very busy month! Boys back to school, closed up the Maine cottage 🙁 and dove head first into my art. Already I have signed 2 contract for solo exhibitions in 2018, made 2 male torso sculptures, completed 2 commissions and now working on my latest commission! I’m continuing to put my art and name in front of a wider audience. In October I’ll be getting myself to Boston to see the many exhibits offered…and to continue to work on my paintings and drawings in both large and small format.

Even though you cannot see the detail in this particular photograph, I so loved adding and adding different textures of dots and lines to the painting. I sometimes think that if someone who is blind – that they could “feel” how this painting looks. Does that make sense? I donated this painting to the Marblehead Festival of the Arts – for the 2nd Annual Arts Fusion Gala in support of the local art programs and scholarships. It will be auctioned off May 2nd at this amazing event! www.marbleheadfestival.org for tickets and information.
