January 2024
My husband and I enjoyed an amazing holiday in Argentina and Uruguay. The people and their unique customs, food, wine, outdoor markets and the ART was a sight to behold. For three weeks we walked around various cities, explored wineries and museums while soaking up the sun as we escaped the New England winter! As with all of our travels – my art only benefits from the experiences we had seeing the beautiful Argentinian art and the breathtaking landscapes.
Feb/March/April 2024
These months are usually the lovely quiet ones where I am able to spent loads of time in my studio producing art that will be part of the upcoming shows and Festivals for ’24. I love to use these months to experiment with different shapes and color combinations in my ceramics, and paintings, and also work on my “Whale Project” and my “Cod” – both of which are for the important fundraiser for the Marblehead Festival of the Arts Scholarships. Stayed tuned!
Also, I am co-chair for the Artisans’ Marketplace which is the outdoor Festival that will run Thursday, July 4th and Friday, July 5th 2024 on the grounds of Abbot Hall, 188 Washington Street, Marblehead, MA 01945.
Applications to be a vendor is open until March 31st, 2024:

December 2020
Greetings everyone!
Different times…
So we are nearing the end of this very strange and difficult year due to Covid…here’s to hoping that 2021 will be a much healthier and happier year for all. Despite most of my exhibitions and pop up events were cancelled, I still had a chance to be a vendor at the Marblehead Farmers’ Market (August/Sept/Oct), on the grounds of the Lee Mansion in Marblehead (November), and at the Masonic Hall for the M’head Christmas Walk weekend (December). I also had the opportunity to have many of my paintings at Kent Newton Hair Salon, Boston since January 2020! They are coming down at the end of December. Also, I had paintings in Members Show at the Lee Mansion @ Marblehead Art Association for the months of Nov/Dec.
Ceramics
I have also been very busy with my hand painted ceramics! I love painting all the different shapes – my mugs, platters, ornaments, bowls, vases, tiles for example have been very popular and I look at each piece as a shaped canvas…Each time I unload the kiln it feels like Christmas! Seeing the colors of the glazes pop is very satisfying to me. I’m loving my new and also repeated customers – thank you!
Tuesday Night Raffle Nights!
When the shutdowns started and the schools became remote, I felt I needed to do something to keep connected with everyone, find a way to continue to share my art, and in my little way give something back to my community. So I came up with “Tuesday Night Raffle Night” that I host every week on FaceBook and Instagram…I started mid March and this Tuesday, December 29th 2020 will be my 36th consecutive week! Each week I give away 3-4 pieces of my art (mostly ceramics) in a random drawing. I go live on FB once the drawing closes at 9pm…it’s silly and fun and everyone seems to enjoy it. Feel free to add your name to the drawing! Find me on FB: Susan j Schrader Art or instagram @susanjschrader1
Opportunities
I am grateful that these artisan shops/galleries have been selling my art this past year. I appreciate the opportunity and to have my work in front of new customers near and far.
The Arnould Gallery, 111 Washington Street, Marblehead, MA.
The Hiccup, 158 Humphrey Street, Swampscott, MA
The Artful Mix, New Canaan, CT
Also, I have been picked up by a Boston based Art Consultant (stay tuned!) and by a North Shore Interior Designer. Already, the amazing Maureen Mercer has placed my painting “Hope” in a local coffee shop, Java Sun, that she redesigned – looks so warm and inviting!
I appreciate their support in my art and I love to create pieces for these beautiful artisan shops/galleries.
I am feeling hopeful for this New Year. I hope to continue to create and share my art with you throughout the coming year. Here’s to 2021 becoming a year where there will be much love, hope, health and prosperity for all.
I miss hanging out with my friends and family. I miss hugging them! Here’s a virtual hug to you all,
Best,
Susan.

Fall 2018
This past Fall, I had the unique opportunity to work on an outdoor mural at Glovers School – a local Marblehead, MA school.
The Marblehead Reporter covered the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of Mural!
“Marblehead’s Glover School unveils a whimsical work of art”
Written by Chris Stevens, published November 27th, 2018.
The Glover “Living Mural”
This is me on the day I finished the 30 ft x 6 ft outdoor mural! I designed images that reflected our sleepy little seaside town such as the Marblehead Lighthouse, Abbot Hall, crazy swimming fish, and a playground for example.
I worked on this project September and October…by the end of October some days were quite chilly.
Almost done! I even hid the alphabet throughout the mural for the kids to find…and painted a big flower with a measuring stick so the kids can see how tall they are.
Done!
Here are the children on the first day when they were allowed to finally draw with chalk on the mural. They can color in my drawings, or draw throughout the mural as I left a lot of space for their creations!
And when it rains, the chalk is cleaned off and ready for the next dry recess!

Mural Slam at the Salem Arts Festival!
This was an incredible weekend! 22+hrs of painting over the weekend! Here are some pics from June 3-4th.
I will be painting onsite for two days during the festival. The site for the 2017 Salem Mural Slam is a series of brick walls at Artists’ Row, located in historic downtown Salem at 24 New Derby St., across from Old Town Hall and Derby Square. This area at the heart of the city was originally built as a market place and continues to this day to be an important public plaza and pedestrian way.
In the interest of enhancing the visual experience for residents and visitors in this walking city, the city of Salem is inviting artists to help transform these spaces that are part of the Salem Public Art Initiative, and the murals will provide an entertaining and stimulating experience to those that live in and visit Salem.
“As we open the 13th season of Artists’ Row, we are very excited to invite artists to paint onsite for two days during the Salem Arts Festival,” said Deborah Greel, public art planner. “This is a great opportunity for the public to see art in the making.”
